Anhand der verstrichenen Zeit kann die Tiefe des Objektes berechnet werden. Bei Humminbird Echoloten wird das Ganze Dual Beam genannt, beispielsweise 200\/83khz Dual Beam Sonar. Das bedeutet, dass dieses Echolot parallel mit einem 200khz und einem 83khz Schallsignal arbeitet, das ausgesendet wird. Dies kann man allgemein ganz einfach formulieren und erkl\u00e4ren:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Je h\u00f6her die Frequenz, desto geringer ist die maximal erreichbare Wassertiefe, da die Energie der Schallwellen bei hoher Frequenz geringer ist und das Wasser nicht weit genug durchdrungen werden kann.<\/li>\n<li>Je h\u00f6her die Frequenz, desto kleiner ist der Abstrahlwinkel. Auch das h\u00e4ngt mit der geringen Energie zusammen. Beispiel: Der Abstrahlkegel bei 200khz betr\u00e4gt in der Regel um 20\u00b0. W\u00fcrde man den Winkel deutlich weiter machen, w\u00fcrde die Energie auf eine viel gr\u00f6\u00dfere Wasserfl\u00e4che verteilt und k\u00f6nnte diese nicht mehr durchdringen.<\/li>\n<li>Je h\u00f6her die Frequenz, desto detailreicher und besser aufgel\u00f6st ist das Bild \u2013 Sie k\u00f6nnen auch kleinere, eng nebeneinander stehende Fische als einzelne Fischsicheln sehen und nicht einfach nur als diffuse Wolke. Aufgrund der hohen Energie, kann man niedrige Frequenzen problemlos auf einen breiten Abstrahlkegel verteilen. Die Energiedichte ist auch dann ausreichend, um in tiefes Wasser vorzudringen. Der Abstrahlwinkel bei 83khz betr\u00e4gt zum Beispiel in der Regel um 60\u00b0 und deckt damit eine gro\u00dfe Wasserfl\u00e4che auch links, rechts, vor und hinter dem Boot ab. Bei 200khz sind es nur 20\u00b0.<\/li>\n<li>Je niedriger die Frequenz des Echolots \u2013 Sie ahnen es &#8211; desto weniger detailreich und desto schlechter die Trennung zwischen eng nebeneinander stehenden Fischen oder Objekten am Grund. Auch reicht das Signal sehr tief ins Wasser hinein.
